I’ve always been an animal lover so when an opportunity to take two goats home to my farm in Goshen came about, I was in heaven. Goats are like chips…You can’t just have two! As my goat herd grew, I was asked: “What are you going to do with them?” I always had the idea of making cheese in the back of my mind, so I decided to generate a business out of my pets. I contacted New York State Agriculture and Markets followed all the rules and regulations. I was approved and started selling raw goat’s milk. A few years later, I met a wonderful cheesemaker and Voila-Cheese! We are NYS Certified and are inspected monthly to ensure the cleanliness and safety of our products. I have since relocated to a farm in the Town of Mount Hope.
There is a very therapeutic and satisfying feeling you get when you milk a goat. The smell of the warm milk streaming out with each squirt and the goat munching away happily on her grain is truly a gift from above. We milk our goats twice a day by machine and hand. My goats live happy lives and they are free-range. I feed my goats premium grain that is antibiotic-free with no added hormones.
Go Goats Milk has a variety of different flavors, ranging from sweet to savory. The most popular cheese flavors are White Chocolate Coconut Truffles, Lemon, Apricot, Honey, and Chocolate Hazelnut. The most popular savory flavors range from Garlic and Herb, Everything (like the Everything bagel,) Chives, South of the Border. Sundried Tomato and Horseradish are also good cheeses to add to your dinner platters. We also have a variety of different seasonal flavors, such as Cinnamon for the fall, Orange Cranberry for the Holidays.
There are many health benefits associated with consuming goat’s milk- it’s heart-healthy with high percentages of fatty acids. The selenium content helps strengthen the immune system and calcium is easily absorbed by humans. Bio-organic sodium found in goat’s milk provides joint flexibility in humans. The enzymatic elements in goat’s milk reduce gut inflammation. There is a high nutrient value in goat’s milk- it’s packed with Phosphorus, Copper, Iron, Potassium, and Vitamin B. One of the most notable attributes of goat milk consumption is that it’s easily digestible for those who are lactose-intolerant or who have sensitive GI tracts in general. The composition of goat milk is very similar to that of human milk. I’ve raised many human babies on my goat’s milk. These babies were allergic to other types of milk or formula, but once their parents started them on goat’s milk their allergic reactions ceased and they grew strong.
